Adults' Weekend Guide! May 12th-14th


It's going to be a wet weekend, but that doesn't mean you must stay inside!  No; you're hearty!  Look at you: Full of character & life!  ;) Grab an umbrella and shake what your momma gave ya' all around town because this weekend our Gateway Arts District shines with Saturday's Open Studios Tour! Throughout the weekend, you've got your pick of live music, arts receptions, a Zumbathon (?!), Mothers' Day Tea & more!  Read on! (Though given the weather forecast, do call ahead!)

FRIDAY

Explorations on Aging Arts Show and Reception

Features will include paintings, photographs pottery and sculpture, textiles, needlework & fabric art.

Zumbathon! 
Check out this fun fundraiser - 2 hours of Zumba led by #5fitguyz to raise money for an outdoor classroom and learning lab at Cheverly's Gladys Noon Spellman Elementary School

Dan and Faith Acoustic at Robert Harper Books 
Check out acoustic, singer/songwriter, husband/wife duo from New England play original songs in traditional folk styles.

Cousin John Band
With bluesy guitar riffs, tight harmonies and buttery grooves, CJB's live performances are both eclectic and electric featuring a wide range of original music mixed with covers from bands such as Little Feat, The Allman Brothers, Delbert McClinton, Aerosmith and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

SATURDAY

Mother's Day Yoga
When: 9-11am

Laurel Main Street Festival 
Festival kicks off with a parade at 9am, followed by numerous entertaining exhibits, vendors, live music and arts and crafts.
When: 9am-4pm
Where: 383 Main Street, Laurel (All along Main Street)
Cost: No entry fee

Greenbelt Greenman Festival
Join - rain or shine - for two days of music, vendors, crafts, environmental awareness, food and fun in beautiful downtown Greenbelt!
When: 10am-6pm

13th Annual Gateway Open Studio Tour 
If you haven't checked out this event yet, do so today!  It's our region's largest artists open studio event and your best opportunity to meet local artists & get behind-the-scenes access throughout the Gateway Arts District! There are 4 main groupings of studios and galleries so check out site for map and head on out!  After party (5-8pm) at Gateway Arts Center!
When: 12-5pm

Free Alcohol Ink Demos 
Ready to find your own inner artist or to try out a new medium?  Join as Tanglewood Works demonstrates how to use alcohol inks to create stained glass an decorative tile.  Great for glass, coasters, knobs, and even jewelry!

Montpelier Mothers' Day Tea
Treat Mom, Grandma or another special lady to a relaxing tea in Montpelier's elegant East Wing. Menu includes fine finger sandwiches, cakes and pastries, buttery scones, and your choice of two quality loose leaf teas. Ages 18 & up.

PorchFest is a family-friendly community music event, appropriate for all ages. The focal points will be a variety of musical acts ranging from acoustic to electric, and solo to ensemble.

Sid Gold hosts esteemed authors Melanie Hatter, Greg McBride and David Salner, plus your own readings to follow.
