Weekend Fun Guide: October 21st - 23rd

School's out this Friday for many students in Prince George's County, so including some ideas for fun things to do this day in the County in this week's lineup!  Weekend lineup will be updated as new events are discovered, so be sure to visit again soon!
FRIDAY 

Montpelier Farms  
Montpelier’s Fall Festival has plenty of attractions and activities for everyone to enjoy. There is a bouncy house, straw bale maze and plenty of pumpkins!
When: 10 am - 11 pm
Where: 1720 Crain Highway North, Upper Marlboro
Admission: $12, 2 and under are free (pumpkins cost extra)  

Queen Anne Farm 
Explore the pumpkin patch, maze, enjoy the animals, purchase flowers, vegetables and more. Kids can explore the petting corral, children's maize and pumpkin house.
When: 10 am - 6 pm
Where: 18102 Central Avenue, Bowie, Maryland
Admission: Free.

Toddler Time at Art Works Now! 
Open studio time for toddlers and their accompanying adults. Even the youngest children can explore a variety of age-appropriate art materials in a safe, fun environment.  This week's theme is Puffy Ghosts - Let your toddler learn to use glue at Art Works and not in your home! (We will clean up the tacky mess). 
When: 10 am - 12 pm

Watkins Regional Park Playground
This.  Place.  Is  Awesome.  Truly awesome Wizard of Oz-themed playground where you literally follow the yellow brick road under a rainbow arch as the Scarecrow shows you the way to your choice of six fun areas: Dorothy's Farm House, Munchkin Land, the Emerald Forest, the Emerald City of Oz, the Balloon Escape, the Ruby Red Shoes.  Playground, nature center and farm are free to explore and enjoy! 
When: 9 am - 6 pm

Admission: Free!

Indian Creek Playground 
Play alongside teepees, a totem pole, and enjoy climbing a dreamcatcher at the Indian Creek Playground!  The littlest of visitors to the park can climb play structures shaped like teepees or oversized dream catchers, sit in an Algonquian canoe, talk with friends by custom cornstalk Talk Tubes or interact with the artistically designed concrete totem pole.  Located along the Indian Creek Trail, this area was once inhabited by many Native American tribes in the region.

Greenbelt Pumpkin Festival
Come help put our community in our community forest! We need our community to help carve hundreds of pumpkins to create the most magical night in Greenbelt--the Greenbelt Pumpkin Walk. Pumpkins are available at no charge for you to carve but must be left behind to place on the walk to calm the beasts within the woods (it's okay, you can pick them up on Sunday after the walk is done).
When: 5 - 8:30 pm

Admission: Free!

SATURDAY  

College Park ParkRun 
Head out on for a weekly, free, 5K, timed run.  Afterwards, enjoy a post parkrun coffee in The Board & Brew, 8150 Baltimore Ave, College Park.  All ages welcome!  
When: Saturdays at 9 a.m.
Where: Paint Branch Trail, 4289 Metzerott Road, College Park
Admission:  Free but please register before your first run.

HVFD Fire Prevention Open House & Kid's Fire Safety Adventure Course 
Come for a day filled with family friendly & kids activities including Kid’s Fire Safety Adventure Course, Bounce House, Dressing Up as a Firefighter, Face Painting, Meeting the Firehouse Mascot, Photo Opps, Giveaways, Prizes & much more!
When: 10 am - 2 pm
Where: 6200 Belcrest Road, Hyattsville (Park at the PG Plaza Metro garage or PG Mall).
Admission:  Free! 

Children's Arts Drop-In Program
Arts Drop-In with Aaron Springer is a fun time for kids and parents to get creative with a variety of craft materials and an imaginative facilitator. Perfect for ages 2-10.
When: 10 - Noon.
Where: College Park Community Center, 5101 Pierce Avenue, College Park
Admission: Free! 

Early Keepers
Check out this free, bilingual program for children 3-7 years old (parent/guardian supervision required) where young learners can explore multicultural heritage through story-telling, music, movement/dance, and arts & crafts. 
When: 11 am - 12:30 p.m

Admission: Free!

Boo Bash!
Celebrate Halloween with games, fun, candy, music, and a costume parade.  There's no telling what other "Bootastic" things could happen. Best for ages 3-12. 
When: 11 am - 1 pm
Where: Langley Park Community Center, 1500 Merrimac Drive, Hyattsville
Admission: Resident $1; Non-resident $2 


Old Greenbelt Theatre Family Series 
Catch The Witches, a 1990 British-American dark fantasy horror film based on the children's novel of the same title by Roald Dahl.
When: 1 p.m.

Admission: Adults: $7; Kids: $6
 
UP Fall Porchfest! 
PorchFest is a family-friendly community music event, appropriate for all ages.  Stroll around town and catch a variety of musical acts ranging from acoustic to electric, and solo to ensemble.
ALL are welcome!  Visit www.facebook.com/porchfestUP for the lineup schedule and map of where to catch the performances. You may also pick up a copy of the map on the porch of 4122 Woodberry St. anytime after 9 am Saturday.
When: 2 - 6 pm

Admission: Free! 

Calabash Carnage Pumpkin Carving
Celebrate Halloween and have lots of fun at the Brentwood Arts Exchange! Your family is invited to join us for a Pumpkin Carving Workshop. Use your imagination and create your own designs. Admission is free. Pumpkins are sold at cost, $5 each. Free parking.
When: 2-4 pm

Admission:  Free, though pumpkins are sold for $5 each.  

28th Annual Greenbelt Pumpkin Walk
Celebrating the power of hundreds of pumpkins in the woods to bring a community together. Bring sturdy shoes and a flash light for this free, 1/4 mile enchanted hike in the woods. This trail is NOT maintained so be prepared to scale logs and get close to Mother Nature (and Goatman). Totally approachable for the young and young at heart however, due to the terrain, the walk is not suitable for strollers, walkers, or wheelchairs. The trail is creature-free until 6PM. Don't miss one of the most magical traditions in all of Greenbelt!
When: 5-9 pm
Where: Northway at Ridge Road, Greenbelt (Limited parking is available at the end of Northway Rd extended. Walking to the hike is STRONGLY encouraged. Enter at the protected 1/2 mile walkway at the intersection of Ridge and Northway Roads). 
Admission: Free!  

The Great Jack O'Lantern Campfire 
Come see a dazzling display of 50 hand-carved illuminated jack o’ lanterns on the grounds of Darnall’s Chance House Museum! Bask in the warmth of a fall campfire, roast marshmallows, and listen to haunted Halloween tales. Kids can win a prize on a hunt for glowing jack o’ lanterns, and everyone can enjoy popcorn, marshmallows, and hot cider.  Guests may bring their own chocolate bars and graham crackers if they wish to make smores.

Frankenstein
A staged reading with two actors portraying the Creature and his Creator, along with other characters from Mary Shelley's masterpiece.  Please share this announcement with your literary friends, English teachers,  and everyone who loves Frankenstein!

Where: CP United Methodist Church, Chapel.  

SUNDAY 

Halloween on the Farm 
Join us down on the farm for an autumn celebration. Enjoy crafts, games, a costume contest, and hayrides.  All ages. 
When: 4-7 pm
Where: Old Maryland Farm, 301 Watkins Park Dr., Upper Marlboro
Admission: $4/person 

Disc Golf 
Bring a picnic and enjoy this 18-hole disc golf course - one of the finest on the east coast. The object of the game is to successfully throw a disc (similar to a Frisbee) into a caged disc hole basket. Discs are available for purchase at College Park Aviation Museum located nearby at 1985 Corporal Frank Scott Drive.
When: 10 am - 4 pm
Where: Community Park Disc Golf Course, 5202 Campus Drive, CP 
Admission:  Free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.
